How To Find A Good Christian Source (Part 2)

In my last post, I discussed some things that I avoid when looking for a good Christian source. So what are some things that I look for?

What are they saying? Many books will have comments from other well-known Pastors and Christian leaders on the back or in the first few pages about the book and what they thought of it. Of course, you may not know how legitimate many of these people are. But if you see one name you recognize and like, say Rick Warren, then you can be more comfortable in knowing that the author is a good source.

Did you hear about them? Along the same lines, many times I find a new author or speaker that I like through the recommendation of another. If your pastor or someone you know recommends someone, and you end up liking that person as well, look to who that author or speaker recommends. It's like a snowball that keeps getting bigger!

What does the internet say? I know in my last post I encouraged staying away from looking up negative things about a person online. But when trying to find out about someone new, I often look on Wikipedia (gasp!) or other sites online to see what this person believes and teaches. If something like "prosperity gospel," comes up, I lose my interest in them.

Pray. The simplest, and often most overlooked, answer to any question or decision. Ask God to point you in the right direction. If you are reading a book, do you feel convicted, encouraged, excited, or a desire to grow in your relationship with God? God wants you to grow in your relationship with Him more than you do, if you are seeking, you will find answers.
